Smith County jail trusties should help the probation department with a backlog of trash collected through community service labor, one Smith County commissioner says.

Commissioner JoAnn Fleming explains that probationers have a backlog of bags full of trash that need to be delivered to the landfill. The probation department approached the road and bridge department for help, but road crews are busy, Mrs. Fleming said.

"(County Engineer) Bill Bala has all available road crews out working on the road infrastructure," she said. "He would have to hire temporary help out of his budget for that, and I didn't think that would be appropriate."

Commissioners have been told the county might receive a grant stemming from fines imposed on Tyler Pipe and its parent company, McWane Inc. of Birmingham, Ala. The fines were imposed as part of a plea bargain earlier this year.

"But before we spend that money, we should know exactly what we're going to spend it on," Mrs. Fleming said. "Folks will want to see some measurable improvements."

 Plats for the Robinson Addition; the Hayes Addition; a re-subdivision plat on Emerald Bay Lake Subdivision Lot 12-A and Lot 14, Unit 27; Johnston Ranch Estates, Unit 1, Lots 19, 20, 21, and 22; Indian Hill Unit 3; and the Jerald Riggle Addition.

 Designating a Labor Standards Officer and authorize county judge to sign Disclosure Update Report for grant contract for Star Mountain Water Supply Corp. project.

 Replacement polling locations; appointing presiding judge, counting station manager and tabulation supervisor for the Central Counting Station; appointing presiding and alternate judges for the early voting ballot board; and appointing presiding and alternate judges for the constitutional amendment election.
